Robust Cooperative Strategy for Contour Matching Using Epipolar Geometry

چکیده
Feature matching in images plays an important role in computer vision such as for 3D reconstruction, motion analysis, object recognition, target tracking and dynamic scene analysis. In this paper, we present a robust cooperative strategy to establish the correspondence of the contours between two uncalibrated images based on the recovered epipolar geometry. We take into account two representations of contours in image as contour points and contour chains. The method proposed in the paper is composed of the following two consecutive steps: (1) The first step uses the LMedS method to estimate the fundamental matrix based on Hartley’s 8-point algorithm, (2) The second step uses a new robust cooperative strategy to match contours. The presented approach has been tested with various real images and experimental results show that our method can produce more accurate contour correspondences.

Feature matching based on corner and edge constraints
The principle underpinning stereo vision—comparing like but disparate images—is essential for calculating distances in applications that include 3D recognition, aircraft navigation, and motion analysis. A critical component of such calculations is matching image features, in particular corners and edges, which simplifies search space by extracting essential information from complex data. But fe...
متن کاملContour Matching Using Epipolar Geometry
Generally contour matching is diicult, and the problem becomes more diicult when the motion between successive image frames is large. When the image frames are obtained while the camera is in motion, we can use constraints about the scene and the camera. In this paper we propose a contour matching algorithm which guarantees an accurate matching result, even for large motion contours. The key id...
متن کاملEpipolar Geometry from the Deformation of an Active Contour
An active contour is used to track a target in a sequence recorded by a walking robot in an unstructured scene . The deformations of the contour are analysed in order to extract the robot’s egomotion, from which we compute the epipolar geometry that guides the matching between different views of the scene. The results prove that the proposed solution is a promising alternative to the prevalent ...
متن کاملRecovering epipolar direction from two affine views of a planar object
The mainstream approach to estimate epipolar geometry from two views requires matching the projections of at least 4 non-coplanar points in the scene, assuming a full projective camera model. Our work deviates from this in three respects: affine camera, planar scene and active contour tracking instead of point matching. Using results in Projective Geometry, we prove that the affine epipolar dir...
